Spreewald - explore the unique lagoon landscape of the Spreewald

The Spreewald is one of twelve biosphere reserves in Germany. It extends over an area of around 480 square kilometres southeast of Berlin in the federal state of Brandenburg. With an over 1000-kilometre-long network of waterways and around 300 individual river courses, it is a veritable paradise for water sports enthusiasts. A multitude of bathing lakes with top water quality – such as Schwieloch Lake, Neuendorf Lake or Köthen Lake – invite you to sail, surf, swim and row.

From April to October the most beautiful and tranquil spots in this unique lagoon landscape can be explored on a romantic excursion in a traditional Spreewald punting boat. Most localities will have at least one punt embarkation point or a punting club. But river tourism is also enjoying increasing popularity. Canoeists or paddlers gently glide in peaceful silence through the labyrinthine streams, past forests, meadows and sandy banks. The charming guesthouses offer plenty of refreshment – not least the famous Spreewald gherkin!
