Upper Palatinate Forest - In the land of a thousand ponds

The Upper Palatinate Forest is characterised by its fish ponds, which were built by monks in the Middle Ages – this is why the Upper Palatinate Forest is also known as the “land of a thousand ponds”. In fact, there are around 4700! Many species of animals and plants inhabit the area and can be spotted by walkers. A paradise for fans of both fishing and fish!

Around the large lake, water sports enthusiasts won’t be disappointed. One of the most modern wakeboard and waterskiing facilities in Germany can be found on Steinberg Lake.
