The area surrounding the Wümme is a haven for many different plants and animals. A large section of the river, including the entire route running through the district of Rotenburg (Wümme), belongs to the EU network of protected areas known as Natura 2000.

The Wümme River runs through heath and forests and further downstream through meadows. This is an amazing trip for water hikers since travelling down the Wümme really is a fascinating natural experience!
There are six possible start or end points along the entire length of the Wümme, allowing easy access to the water. If you do not own a canoe, it is possible to rent one from local canoe hirers, who bring the boat to your point of departure.

The region of the Wümme also offers a variety of activities on land, such as the Wümme cycle path, the Heimathaus in Scheeßel, the LandPark Lauenbrück, Rotenburg culture trail and much, much more.

If you would like to learn more from this unique region, please contact the tourist information association in Rotenburg (Wümme) or the local canoe-hire company (contact details and link available at www.TouROW.de).
