The North Sea - Water sports from surf to the mudflats

Buggy kiting at the North Sea -

Water sports enthusiasts will find ideal conditions on the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. Thanks to the clear, salty sea-air and the excellent climate there is fun to be had in addition to health benefits. The powerful breakers found on the North Sea coast offer the best conditions for surfers to ride the waves. The tides can present an exciting challenge for sailors as well. Therefore, because of the cold waters and the strong winds, the North Sea is particularly suitable for water sports professionals to practise their trade.

Beginners would probably be more interested in the numerous mud flats of the North Sea islands. These coastal regions and their varying landscapes can be easily explored with a canoe.

All the routes do, however, have one thing in common: they lead through almost undisturbed nature, where flora and fauna remain intact and preserved and can be discovered while you are waterhiking or doing Nordic walking. If nothing else, the cool waters of the North Sea will fortify your immune system, strengthen your muscles and increase your stamina.

Treeneschleife Schwabstedt - (c) Eider-Treene-Sorge GmbH

Discover the largest interconnected river landscape in Schleswig-Holstein with the Eider, Treene and Sorge Rivers. The Treene can be navigated from Langstedt and in this section is relatively short and narrow. From Esperstoft the Treene is wider and thus well-suited for family excursions.

Canoeing for the family -

Canoe trips are offered on both the Dinkel and Vechte Rivers, from the city of Nordhorn on the tour boats "Vechtestromer" and "Vechtesonne" and in the surrounding area on the Ems-Vechte Canal on the passenger ship Hanekenfähr.

The rivers in the Emsland flow like blue ribbons through green expanses dotted with woods and moors. Ems, the Dortmund-Ems Canal, the Haren-Rütenbrock Canal und coastal canals with their connection to the North Sea und the network of waterways in Holland are ideal areas for leisurely skippers.
